Global Weather Chaos: Heatwaves, Floods, Storms & Smoke Grip the World on June , 2025

As we reach the midpoint of June 2025, weather patterns across the globe are presenting a diverse array of conditions. From intense heatwaves in South Asia to severe storms in the Southern Hemisphere, here's an overview of today's significant weather events:

🌡️ South Asia: Heatwaves and Monsoon Onset

India and Pakistan Heatwave
The ongoing heatwave in India and Pakistan continues to be a major concern. Temperatures have soared to 48.0°C (118.4°F) in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, marking one of the highest recorded temperatures this year. This extreme heat has resulted in over 450 fatalities across both nations since April, with the majority of deaths attributed to heatstroke and associated complications.

Monsoon Arrivals
In contrast to the scorching heat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the onset of the monsoon in various regions. Delhi, after enduring days of intense heat, is expected to experience relief with rain and thunderstorms today, June 14. This shift is anticipated to lower temperatures and provide respite to residents.

Kalyan Weather Update
In Kalyan, Maharashtra, residents can expect a cloudy day with a morning thunderstorm followed by periods of rain in the afternoon. The high is forecasted at 32°C, with a low of 25°C. Similar conditions are expected to persist through the coming week, with consistent rainfall and thunderstorms.

🌪️ North America: Severe Storms and Wildfires

Severe Storms in the U.S.
The United States is bracing for severe weather conditions this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for rain showers and isolated storms across various regions. Additionally, flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of the Midlands until 1 a.m. Saturday, with gusts potentially peaking at 50 mph.

Canadian Wildfires
In Canada, wildfires have led to hazardous air quality levels across several provinces. Smoke from these fires has drifted into the United States, affecting areas from Kansas City to Minneapolis. Residents are advised to stay indoors and limit outdoor activities due to the poor air quality.

Southern Hemisphere: Floods and Cold Snaps

South Africa Floods
Eastern Cape in South Africa is grappling with severe flooding caused by torrential rains, heavy winds, and snow. As of June 13, the death toll has risen to 78, with hundreds of thousands of homes losing power and over 127 schools and 20 healthcare facilities damaged. Rescue efforts have been hampered by limited resources, and many individuals remain stranded awaiting assistance.

Australian Cold Snap
Australia is experiencing an unusual cold snap, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing severe frost alerts for farmers in New South Wales and South Australia. The cold temperatures and northerly winds over the weekend could threaten livestock, particularly lambs and sheep. Affected areas include NSW’s Northern Tablelands, South West Slopes, and Snowy Mountains, as well as South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges.

🌍 Climate Patterns and Forecasts

Bharat Forecasting System (BFS)
India's new high-resolution weather prediction system, the Bharat Forecasting System, launched on May 26, 2025, aims to enhance the accuracy of medium and short-range forecasts. Operating on a 6-kilometer grid, BFS is expected to improve predictions for monsoon patterns, cyclones, and other extreme weather events, supporting disaster management and agricultural planning across the country.

Monsoon Forecasts

Skymet Weather has forecasted a normal monsoon for India in 2025, with seasonal rainfall between June and September expected to be 103% of the Long Period Average (LPA) of 868.6 mm. This forecast suggests a balanced distribution of rainfall, benefiting agriculture and water resources.

🔭 Looking Ahead

As we continue through June 2025, it's evident that weather patterns are becoming increasingly erratic and extreme. The juxtaposition of heatwaves and monsoon rains in South Asia, severe storms and wildfires in North America, and floods and cold snaps in the Southern Hemisphere underscore the complex challenges posed by climate change. Ongoing advancements in forecasting systems, like India's Bharat Forecasting System, are crucial in enhancing preparedness and response to these extreme weather events.

Residents in affected regions are urged to stay informed through official weather channels and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. As the global community navigates these challenging weather patterns, collaboration and proactive measures will be key in mitigating the impacts of such extreme events.
